Well Test Planning & Interpretation

A flow test of a prospective zone is one of the most critical pieces of information that can be obtained during the drilling of an exploration or delineation well. Even with the latest generation of open hole evaluation tools, a well test remains the only direct way to measure and calibrate well and reservoir performance.

The design and planning of a test, particularly in high cost offshore or frontier environments, requires careful assessment of the test objectives; the data and information gathering requirements, and how these relate to the wider field development planning issues; and the costs and risks associated with conducting the test. Detailed planning, sound engineering and expert execution are the critical elements in ensuring the test is conducted safely and efficiently, and that all of the objectives are met.

RPS Energy has extensive experience in well test planning and analysis and has assisted operators in demanding environments such as the Foothills, the Arctic, the East Coast of Canada, and the Gulf of Mexico; as well as a host of challenging assignments worldwide. RPS combines its knowledge of reservoir engineering and pressure transient analysis with practical operational capabilities, to offer an integrated approach to well test planning and execution. Our key Well Test Planning and Analysis Services include :

  • Identification and prioritization of well test objectives
  • Confirmation of well test requirements
  • Preparation of detailed well test programs
  • Selection and qualification of test equipment
  • Onsite (onshore and offshore) engineering support and test supervision
  • Detailed well test interpretation
  • Definition of Extended Well Test (EWT) requirements
